What “Polish doors” really means

The doors are made in Poland. What goes into them is not all Polish: our uPVC doors are built on the Salamander bluEvolution 82 profile, a German system, with GU multi-point locking, also German. The glazing is triple laminated and argon filled to the same specification quoted anywhere in western Europe.

So the question is where the door is assembled, not whose engineering goes into it. That is the whole of the saving.

The honest comparison is not “Polish door versus British door”. It is the same European specification, costed differently.

What you get

Made to measure Steel doors built in 1 cm steps to the opening you measured, not cut down from a standard leaf.
A price before you order Configure the door online and the price settles as you choose. No quotation to wait for.
You see the door The preview redraws as you pick the colour, the glazing and the handle.
Delivered across the UK By postcode — free to Liverpool, from £85 elsewhere. Stock doors leave in 3–4 working days.

Three thermal standards

Every steel door is offered in one of three builds. They differ in how thick the leaf is and how many panes are in the glazing unit, and that is what decides how much heat the door lets go. The lower the U-value, the better.

BuildLeafPanesSolid doorGlazed door
Premium 9090 mm40.61 W/(m²·K)0.70 W/(m²·K)
Comfort 7272 mm40.82 W/(m²·K)0.96 W/(m²·K)
Standard 5555 mm30.93 W/(m²·K)1.1 W/(m²·K)

Figures are for a wood or steel frame at the reference door size. An aluminium frame reads 0.67 and 0.78 on Premium 90, and 0.83 and 0.97 on Comfort 72. Premium 90 meets and exceeds what a passive house asks of a door; Comfort 72 is available in burglary class RC2 for the No Glass, Simple Elegance and Modern collections.

What the door is actually made of

The leaf Galvanised steel sheet under a high-grade laminate, filled with injection-moulded PUR foam rather than slab insulation cut to fit.
The leaf frame Glass-fibre-reinforced ABS, multi-chambered. It stops the leaf sagging, so the locks keep meeting their keeps, and it insulates.
The threshold A warm aluminium sill with a plastic thermal break. Its top can be replaced on its own if it is ever scratched.
The hardware Fully adjustable 3D hinges, anti-burglary bolts, and a multi-point lock running on three 12 mm pins.

uPVC and aluminium

Beside the steel range we make front doors in two other materials. Both configure the same way and arrive on the same terms.

A German uPVC profile, steel-reinforced, with a 10-year guarantee on the profile itself.

On heat alone uPVC is the warmer of the two. Aluminium earns its place on span and finish. Steel starts lowest of all and, in the Premium 90 build, insulates better than either.

How to buy one

Unlike our windows, the doors are not quotation-only. Choose a model, enter your opening, pick the colour inside and out, the glazing and the hardware, and the price follows as you go. You order it there.

Worth having to hand: the width and height of the structural opening in millimetres, which way the door needs to open as you face it from outside, and whether you want glass in it.
